Updating device firmware in Nebula Beta

Overview

This section refers to updating the firmware of a device such as an electronic lock or a gateway in Salto Nebula.

What's firmware?
Firmware is software that's programmed on the ROM (read-only memory) of hardware devices such as electronic locks or gateways.

Why should I update firmware?
Common reasons for updating firmware include fixing bugs or adding features to a device.

How often do I need to update my firmware?
Salto provides automatic firmware updates when new functionality is available or when we fix a software bug. We recommended that you always use the latest firmware versions with Nebula.

How to update firmware

For devices like electronic locks and gateways, firmware updates are automatically detected during the configuration process, if they're required.

  • To update a device's firmware enter the Devices section of the app.
  • Select the Configure option.
  • Hold your phone close to the device that requires an update.
  • Make sure you follow the configuring devices process.

Remember that a firmware update can take up to 4 or 5 minutes to complete depending on the model of your phone.

For troubleshooting, see the error handling section.
