Managing locks and other hardware

Overview

This page covers how to manage locks and other hardware components in your Salto KS system. Understand the different types of hardware available, compatibility requirements, and how to add locks and IQs to your site.

Types of hardware

Salto KS offers a flexible, wireless smart access control system with a wide range of hardware components that can be configured to suit any building, door, or use case.

Salto KS-compatible hardware includes:

  • Cylinders: Designed to fit various locking systems and doors, cylinders provide secure access with different internal mechanisms.
  • Escutcheons: Ideal for in-house or interior doors such as individual offices, meeting rooms, and storage areas.
  • Wall Readers: These are best suited for high-traffic areas and automated doors like main entrances, sliding doors, or gates. They work in combination with the Salto KS Controller for enhanced functionality.

If you are unsure which lock type best fits your needs, a certified installer can assess your space and recommend the most suitable hardware.

IQ

Each Salto KS site requires one or more IQ units, the core gateway that connects your site's wireless locks to the Salto KS cloud platform.

The IQ:

  • Receives all updates, user data, and settings from the platform.
  • Instantly syncs this information to your locks.
  • Supports connectivity via mobile networks, Wi-Fi, Ethernet, or Power over Ethernet (PoE).
  • Offers local storage to manage access rules even if internet connectivity is lost temporarily.
  • Its range can be extended with repeaters to ensure signal reach across larger spaces.

Repeater

A repeater is a device that extends the range of the IQ's wireless signal. A maximum of six repeaters can be connected per IQ, with up to three tiers of extension for broader coverage.

Hardware compatibility

Salto KS hardware is globally compatible with most European, Scandinavian, and ANSI mortise locks and tubular latches. Salto's hardware portfolio allows for smart access on virtually any door.

Offline access

In the event that wireless locks lose connection to the IQ, offline access ensures that authorized users' credentials can still unlock doors.

With offline access enabled:

  • Site Admins can grant offline permissions for a user per credential.
  • Offline access rules are synced from the IQ and stored locally in the lock's memory.
  • Users can access doors using Digital Keys or Tags, even when real-time connectivity is interrupted.
  • This feature guarantees uninterrupted access for up to 360 credentials for BLUEnet locks and 39 credentials for RFnet locks.

Adding locks to your Salto KS site

To add a new lock to your existing site, follow these steps:

  1. Log in to your account as Site Owner or Site Admin.

  2. Click on Site, then navigate to Hardware.

  3. Click the three-dot actions button next to the relevant IQ or repeater.

  4. Click on the Add Lock button.

  5. Fill in your new lock's name and MAC address (Device ID). The Device ID is on the sticker on the lock itself after you take it out of the box.

  6. You will be asked to enter a code which you must generate from your Salto KS Mobile App. Open your app and tap on the IQ tab.

  7. Select the IQ and tap Generate Code.

  8. Enter the code into your web app for the IQ when prompted.

  9. After confirming, you will be asked to present the maintenance card to the lock.

When generating the code in your Salto KS Mobile App, if your IQ has not yet been activated, follow the on-screen steps to activate it before retrieving the code.

When your lock blinks green and beeps, it is successfully attached.
