Site settings in Salto KS

What are Site settings in Salto KS?

Site settings is a central place where site admins can manage how certain credentials behave by default across an entire site. This means that instead of Salto KS deciding how these features work, you, the site admin, can determine the default settings for your site.

To access Site settings, open the Site menu and go to the Site Overview page. You will see a Site settings card, where you can toggle the following settings on or off.

Site settings includes three controls:

  1. Custom PIN
  2. Tags from other sites
  3. Offline access for new digital keys

When you toggle the setting on to enable it or toggle off to disable it, you will see a screen explaining the implications of this setting across your site. You can then confirm the action by clicking the button Enable or Disable.

To improve security and awareness, users receive notifications when a new tag is assigned to them or when their PIN is changed.

What is the 'Custom PIN' site setting?

The Custom PIN site setting is only available for sites with a Salto KS Pro subscription, as Custom PIN is a Pro feature. This setting allows administrators to decide whether users can create and use Custom PINs on their site. The toggle works in the following ways:

  • Enabled: Users on the site can generate and use a Custom PIN.
  • Disabled: Existing Custom PINs become blocked, and new ones cannot be used.

If re‑enabled, previously blocked PINs remain blocked, but users can create new ones and Site Admins can unblock PINs manually if they wish.

For sites already using Custom PIN, this setting will remain enabled by default.

When enabling this setting, bear in mind that Custom PINs are not unique, and users with the same Custom PIN will have access to all locks that users with that PIN have access to.

What is the 'Tags from other sites' site setting?

In multi-site scenarios, users often belong to more than one site under the same email address. If a tag were assigned to a user on one site, it would automatically grant access to all other sites the user belonged to. In some cases, you, as a site admin, might not want to allow tags from another site.

The Tags from other sites site setting controls whether tags assigned to a user from another site can be used as valid credentials on your site. The toggle works in the following ways:

  • Enabled: Tags from other sites work as usual (existing behavior).
  • Disabled: Newly assigned tags from other sites are automatically blocked on your site. Existing ones remain unblocked.

If the setting is disabled, users will still see the credential in their app, but it will not work on this site unless manually unblocked. Site Admins can manually unblock such tags from the user's profile on the Manage Keys page if needed.

What is the 'Offline Access for new Digital Keys' site setting?

This default site-level setting defines whether newly created Digital Keys automatically receive Offline Access.

Site Admins manually manage Offline Access for each tag and Digital Key in Salto KS. This site setting, therefore, reduces operational friction for Site Admins and increases the platform's resilience in your site.

The toggle works in the following ways:

  • Enabled: Newly assigned Digital Keys are automatically given Offline Access.
  • Disabled: Newly assigned Digital Keys do not receive Offline Access unless manually assigned (current behavior).

When enabled, the newly added Digital Keys will automatically have offline access to the locks to which they have been granted regular access. After this, if you wish, you can still revoke offline access by selecting a user and then navigating to the Manage Keys page.

This setting does not affect existing Digital Keys, and these must still be managed individually.

Can Site Admins override the 'Offline Access for new Digital Keys' site setting on individual Digital Keys?

Yes. Regardless of the default site-level Offline Access for new Digital Keys setting, Site Admins can always manually enable or disable Offline Access for any specific Digital Key.

Do Site settings affect existing credentials?

Site settings affect existing credentials throughout the site in the case of Custom PIN. If the site setting is disabled, then existing Custom PINs are blocked.

With the Offline Access for new Digital Keys site setting, existing Digital Keys are not affected by the default site‑level setting. Only newly assigned Digital Keys are affected.

In the case of the Tags from other sites setting, existing tags from other sites are not affected by the default site-level setting. Only newly assigned tags are affected.

Are Site settings enabled by default?

The Custom PIN site setting is enabled by default for Salto KS Pro sites that already use Custom PIN. For those sites, the site setting will remain enabled to avoid disruption.

The Tags from other sites site setting is also enabled by default on all sites.

By default, the Offline Access for new Digital Keys site setting is disabled on all sites.
