Auto Unlock

The Auto Unlock feature allows your Danalock V3 to detect when you arrive home and unlock the door for you.

After enabling Auto Unlock, you'll be asked to set a Home zone, which can be between 200 and 1000 meters.

Your phone then uses its GPS and geofencing to recognize when you enter this Home zone.

When you're within Bluetooth range, the app connects to your lock and unlocks the door.

External factors such as phone model and settings, manufacturer power-saving features, GPS performance, Bluetooth behavior and the surrounding environment can affect how the Auto Unlock feature works and can cause it to fail. Danalock cannot guarantee that this feature will function in all situations.

If you have the Danalock V3 BT HK (Homekit), you need to update the lock with the dual-mode firmware (2.7.5) to be able to use the Auto Unlock feature in the Danalock app. You can find information about the dual-mode and a step-by-step guide on how to update on the Homekit page.

How to enable Auto Unlock

You can enable Auto Unlock by going to Lock settings > Auto Unlock.

  1. To create a Home zone, swipe the button to the right to enable the Auto Unlock feature.

Below is a list of recommended phone settings to help ensure that Auto Unlock works correctly.

The settings vary depending on whether you use an iOS or Android phone.

iOS

If you're using an iOS phone, follow the recommendations listed below.

The following settings and recommendations must be configured on each phone you want to use with the Auto Unlock feature. These settings are stored locally on the phone and are not synchronized with your Danalock account.

Bluetooth (iOS)

Bluetooth must be enabled on your phone for it to detect and unlock your Danalock V3. If it's disabled when you enter your Home zone, the app won't be able to start the Auto Unlock process.

Geofence Radius / Home zone (in-app Danalock setting - iOS)

The Geofence radius defines your Home zone for Auto Unlock.

If you arrive on foot or by bike, a smaller radius is recommended. This gives your phone enough time to update its location and start searching for the lock before you reach the door.

If you arrive by car, a larger radius is recommended. With a small radius, your phone will not update its location in time before you reach the lock. A larger radius gives the phone more time to register that you have entered the Home zone.

Location permission (iOS)

Location permission should be set to Always.

When setting up Auto Unlock, your phone will ask for location permissions. The first time it appears, select Allow While Using App. Afterward, the app will request permission to access your location even when you're not using it. Here, you need to select Always Allow.

If needed, you can change this later in Phone Settings > Danalock app.

Your location data is stored only on your phone. Danalock does not collect or store any location information.

Low power mode

If your phone is set to Low Power Mode, or automatically enters it when the battery is low, background activity is reduced. This affects the Danalock app and can impact the Auto Unlock feature. To resolve this, recharge your phone and then turn off Low Power Mode.

Notifications (iOS)

We recommend allowing notifications from the Danalock app so you'll be informed when Auto Unlock starts and when the unlocking is completed.

Precise Location (iOS)

Precise location is turned on by default on your phone.

In Phone settings > Danalock app and Location, you'll find the setting Precise Location. This should be enabled for Auto Unlock to work accurately.

If Precise Location is turned off, the phone might misinterpret your position and trigger unwanted unlocks by thinking you're outside the home zone.

Timeout (iOS)

The Auto Unlock process in the Danalock app will time out after 29 minutes if it's not successful. This setting cannot be changed.

Android

On Android phones, different manufacturers use slightly different names for the settings listed below. We'll explain the basic functions and what to look for, but you might need to search for a similar word or phrase on your device.

We've done our best to guide you to the right place during the initial app setup, but we can't always direct you to the exact menu on every phone model.

The following settings and recommendations must be configured on each phone you want to use with the Auto Unlock feature. These settings are stored locally on the phone and are not synchronized with your Danalock account.

Auto start

If your Android phone includes an Autostart option for the Danalock app, we recommend enabling it. This feature is not available on all Android versions.

You can find it by long-pressing the Danalock app icon and selecting App info.

Battery settings

Battery optimization on Android phones can vary between models and versions. It's important to make sure that the Danalock app's background services are not stopped by the phone's power-saving features.

For the Danalock app to update and run in the background, you need to disable any battery saver or optimization for the app.

Depending on the phone brand and Android version, this setting can appear under different names such as: Don't optimize, No restrictions or similar.

To adjust this:

Find the Danalock app icon on your phone and long-press it.

Press App info (or the i icon).

Open Battery or Battery saver.

Set it to No optimization, No restriction, or a similar option.

Bluetooth (Android)

Bluetooth must be enabled on your phone to detect and operate your Danalock V3.

If Bluetooth is disabled when you enter your Auto Unlock zone (Home zone), Android phones running Android 12 or earlier will attempt to turn it on automatically and continue the Auto Unlock process. On Android 13 and newer, this will cause Auto Unlock to fail. A notification will appear if this happens.

Geofence radius / Home zone radius (In-app Danalock setting)

By default, the Home zone radius is set to 200 or 500 meters, depending on your app version. You can adjust it between 200 and 1000 meters.

If you set a high radius, the Auto Unlock process can time out before you reach the door when arriving on foot or by bike. If you set a low radius and approach by car, the phone's location services often do not update in time, which can delay the unlock.

Adjust the radius to match how you arrive at your home to achieve the best result.

Location permission (Android)

When you open the Danalock app for the first time, you'll be asked to grant various permissions. One of these is Location permission. You need to make sure to set this to While using the app.

To verify this setting later, go to Phone settings > Apps and select Danalock. From there, go to Permissions > Location, and ensure it's set to While using the app.

Your location data is stored only on your phone. Danalock does not collect or store any location information.

On some phones, such as Samsung, you will be asked to allow the app to set alarms and schedule time-sensitive actions. You need to enable this if prompted.

Precise location (Android)

Under the app's location permissions (as mentioned in the section above), some phones include a setting called Use precise location. It's enabled by default, and we recommend leaving it on.

Notifications (Android)

Notifications from the Danalock app provide information about the status of Auto Unlock. You'll see when the function is active, when you enter or leave your Auto Unlock zone (Home zone), and whether the unlock attempt was successful or failed.

On Android 12 and earlier, the app automatically has permission to show notifications. On Android 13 and newer, the Danalock app will ask for notification permission. If this permission was denied during the initial setup, you'll need to open the app's system settings and enable notifications manually.

Relative location of nearby devices (Not available on all versions of Android)

During the initial setup of the Danalock app, this permission is set to Allow. If it's turned off later, the app will prompt you to enable it again. This permission is required for the app to communicate with your Danalock via Bluetooth.

Timeout (Android)

The timeout is set to 29 minutes. This is the maximum time the app will wait for the lock to come within range after you enter the Auto Unlock zone (Home zone). If more than 29 minutes pass before you reach the lock, Auto Unlock will not activate.

This setting cannot be changed in the Android app.

By default, Android removes app permissions if an app has not been opened for a while. We recommend disabling this feature for the Danalock app. You can find this setting by going to Phone settings > App settings.

Having issues with Auto Unlock?

If you are having issues with Auto Unlock, please make sure that all the recommendations above have been followed.

If the issue persists, try the following steps:

  • Delete the Home zone.
  • Disable Auto Unlock.
  • Sign out of the Danalock app and sign in again.
  • Re-enable Auto Unlock and set up the Home zone again.
