Orion Server recovery

Depending on the recovery scenario, you can either mount the recovery within the Orion Server or boot from recovery media for a complete bare-metal recovery (detailed below).

Recovering files

If carrying out a file or folder based recovery you can copy files back from /mnt/backup using standard Linux tools like cp or rsync to copy your files back into replace. Make sure to reboot the server after restoring your files.

Boot from Veeam Recovery Media

In the scenario where you have had to replace the server hard drive you will need to perform a bare-metal recovery.

  1. Boot from the Veeam Recovery Media USB stick.

  2. Read through and agree to the terms and conditions.

  3. Exit to the shell.

  4. If you are using a directly attached USB disk, run lsblk to find the external device name as we did during the backup, in our example it is /dev/sda1

  5. Create a mount folder and mount the external recovery drive:

    sudo mkdir /media/usb
    sudo mount /dev/sda1 /media/usb

  6. Elevate to root and import backup database from external disk using the example backup location of /media/usb/backup.vbm:

    sudo -i
    veeamconfig backup import --path /media/usb/backup.vbm

When complete, this results in Backup imported successfully.

  7. Now relaunch Veeam to begin the restore: sudo veeam

  8. Select either Restore volumes or Restore files depending on your scenario and requirements and then choose the date and time of the restore point you require.

Further details of how to restore folders and individual files can be found on the Veeam website.
