# Using your Digital Key in Salto KS

## Overview {#overview}

The Digital Key works the same way in both the Salto KS Mobile App and the Salto KS Keychain app.
This section explains how to activate and use your Digital Key, regardless of which app you choose.

## Activating your Digital Key {#activating-your-digital-key}

To get started, log in to the Salto KS Mobile App or Salto KS Keychain app using your credentials or Single Sign‑On (SSO).

If your site supports Digital Key functionality, your Digital Key will be activated automatically.

## Requirements {#requirements}

Before using your Digital Key, make sure:

- Bluetooth is turned on
- Your device is connected to the internet
- Your phone is unlocked

## Unlocking a door {#unlocking-a-door}

Once your Digital Key is active:

1. Stand in front of the lock.
2. Tap the **Digital Key** button in the app, or use the **Digital Key** widget if you have added it.
3. Hold the back of your phone against the lock until it responds.

Your Digital Key grants access to all locks you are authorized to use on the site.
There is no need to manage separate keys for individual doors.

## Digital Key widget {#digital-key-widget}

For faster access, you can add the **Digital Key** widget to your home screen:

- **iOS**: Add the widget via **Today View** or the **Home Screen** using the "+" button.
- **Android**: Press and hold a blank area on your home screen, select **Widgets**, then drag the **Salto KS Digital Key** widget into place.

Once added, the widget lets you activate your Digital Key without opening the app.

## Digital Key on smartwatch {#digital-key-on-smartwatch}

If supported, you can use your Apple Watch or Wear OS smartwatch to unlock doors.
To unlock a door using your smartwatch:

1. Press the **Digital Key** button or complication on your smartwatch.
2. Tap your watch to the lock.

Your phone is not required at the time of unlocking.

## Digital Key via NFC (Android) {#digital-key-via-nfc}

As an Android user, you can unlock NFC-enabled locks by tapping your phone against the lock.

There is no need to open the app or press any buttons—the Digital Key will unlock the door via NFC.
An NFC opening saves even more time as you do not need to open the app or swipe to find your widget.
