# How to configure doors in Salto Homelok
> Set up and manage doors in the Salto Homelok access control platform, covering both online and offline access points.


## Overview {#overview}

This section describes what doors are in Salto Homelok and how to manage them.

There are currently two ways of creating doors in Salto Homelok:

1. Implicitly, when you [create an electronic lock](/homelok/user-guide/property-manager/devices/electronic-locks) in the **Devices** section.
   This is the most common way of creating doors, as it allows you to create a door at the same time as you create the electronic lock that governs it.
2. Explicitly, in the **Settings** section of Homelok.
   This lets you create a door that you can then associate with a [controller](/homelok/user-guide/property-manager/devices/controllers)'s relay, in the same way you would associate a [destination](/homelok/user-guide/property-manager/settings/destinations) with a relay.
   This is the workflow described in this guide.

If you also have unit doors in your installation, these are displayed in a separate **Unit doors** list.

## Creating doors {#create-doors}

The **Doors** section in Homelok displays a list of all the doors that are available in your installation.

These could be doors that are created at the same time when the electronic lock that governs them is created, or doors that are associated with a {{< glossary_term "controller" >}}controller{{< /glossary_term >}} device.
For doors that are associated with electronic locks, you cannot create or edit them in this section, rather you must [create an electronic lock](/homelok/user-guide/property-manager/devices/electronic-locks) in the **Devices** section, and make any edits there.
You should not create doors here that will be associated with an electronic lock.

This section is primarily for managing doors that are associated with controllers, or for viewing the list of all doors in your installation.

Once you've created a door, go to the **Devices** section to [associate it with a controller](/homelok/user-guide/property-manager/devices/controllers).

## User access {#user-access}

To give users access to a door, once the door has been created you must [add it to an access](/homelok/user-guide/property-manager/access/create-access#add-doors-to-an-access) and then [assign that access](/homelok/user-guide/property-manager/users/user-access#assigning-access) to a user.
You can do this either at the installation or unit level.
